Join us for the 2024 Race Against Racism 5K Walk/Run on April 27, 2024 at PFW.

Packet Pickup begins at 9am and the chip timed race starts at 10am.

The theme is "Ally Up!" and we will focus on building allies to help shape our community's youth, creating a more inclusive future.

Adult tickets are $45, student tickets (ages 15-23) are $20, and children 14 and under are $10.

The T-shirt deadline was April 14th. All registrations received past this date are not guaranteed a shirt.

The Race Against Racism 5K Walk/Run raises funds for YWCA’s racial justice efforts, which include community events and organizing, assessing community priority areas for racial justice, working with BIPOC-led groups, and developing educational content to share with Fort Wayne and the northeast Indiana community.

To pledge your support for our 2024 event, please complete our Sponsor Packet and return it to hshoue@ywcaerew.org

Event Highlights

Scenic Route: Discover the beauty of Purdue Fort Wayne in the spring as you run/walk through their picturesque campus, even crossing over the St. Joseph River! The course will be lined with local and national statistics surrounding racial justice.

Family-Friendly and Accessible: Bring the whole family for a day of fitness, fun, and allyship! The course is fully accessible for wheelchairs. Leashed pets and strollers are welcome at no additional cost. However, for just $5 you could enter your dog in the Pup Run! Learn more below!

Community Support: Every step you take supports a worthy cause, with proceeds from the event benefiting YWCA’s racial justice efforts. Building a more just and equitable community takes all of us, so YWCA wants to offer community members the opportunity to run the race against racism, together.

Music & Activities: Keep your energy high with live music and activities throughout the event!

Community Partners:
Local organizations will be joining us, so get excited to stop by their tables and learn about their work in our community.

Things to Look Forward to:

YogaSix will be leading a pre-race stretch at 9:30am. Join in to get your muscles loose and your body ready for the 5K!

Introducing…new team structure!

You can now create a team and join other teams for FREE. Standing up for racial justice is more fun and effective with friends!

Create a team and your friends and family can search for your team name when they register to join. To register and join a team or add a team if you’re already registered, click here.

The timed competition will be based on individual runners regardless of teams, but we may have some extra awards to give out for teams that go above and beyond, whether in style, size, or support for YWCA.

(To join or create a team if you’re already registered, login to your account and select Manage Registration > Teams).

Introducing…the inaugural 2024 Pup Run!

For just five dollars, you can officially add your dog to the race, and your dog will be entered into a drawing for a special prize to be awarded during the award ceremony. Add your good boy or girl to your existing registration or register today!

Dogs must be leashed and should be comfortable in large crowds. You may still bring your dog for free without entering them into the Pup Run. Both the owner and their dog must cross the finish line to be eligible for the Pup Run prize drawing.

(To add the Pup Run if you’re already registered, login to your account and select Manage Registration > Add-ons).

YWCA is excited to offer our Couch to 5K Training Plan for race registrants again this year! This 10 week training plan started the week of February 18th and takes you all the way from the couch to the finish line on race day.

The training regimen is endorsed by Three Rivers Running Company and is compatible with training to walk or run, your choice. Additionally, YWCA has added some resources along the way that will build your anti-racism muscles as well.

Medals and 3RRC gift cards will be awarded to the overall top finisher for each gender category.

Recognition will be given based on the following age categories and gender selection: 14 and under, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, and 75+.

All pups that cross the finish line will be entered into a drawing for a special prize.

Visit all our Community Partner tables to fill out an “Allyship Passport” for a chance to win a prize!

Additional Racial Justice Offerings

Diversity Dialogues
Speaking of anti-racism muscles, we invite you to check out the recap of our March 7th Diversity Dialogue, which focused on Women’s Work. YWCA’s Racial Justice programming is embracing 2024 as the “Year of the Ally.” Our next event is on June 13th and will explore the resources our community offers in aiding the mental, emotional, and social development for our children. Learn more and register by visiting our website.

Diversity 101 Training
YWCA Northeast Indiana offers a Diversity 101 program that looks at key terms, issues, implicit bias, and provides resources for diversity within your workplace. This interactive two hour training can be customized for your organization. Learn more about our trainings on our website.

“Are you an AllY?” Blog Series
“Ally” in recent years refers specifically to a person supporting a marginalized group. For this blog series, we capitalize the “Y” in “AllY” to emphasize the connection between YWCA Northeast Indiana’s dedication to eliminating racism and the allyship focus of the blog. Visit our website for monthly posts surrounding various aspects of being an ally.
